Cape May Kraken – Official Program Statement

The Cape May Kraken is a member of the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association (AAHA) as a USA Hockey sanctioned recreational (REC) hockey club dedicated to providing players with additional opportunities to participate in and enjoy the game of hockey. Our mission is to foster sportsmanship, teamwork, player development, and a lifelong love of the sport in a positive, inclusive, and family-oriented environment.

As a recreational organization, the Cape May Kraken is NOT a Tier I (AAA) or Tier II travel club. We do not participate in district or national championship competition, nor is our purpose to compete with travel hockey organizations. We encourage every player to prioritize their primary club commitments and view our program as a complement to, not a replacement for travel hockey. As per AAHA rules outlined here, players are permitted to play for the Cape May Kraken even if rostered with a Tier I/II organization.

The Cape May Kraken offers a variety of recreational hockey opportunities, including tournaments, non-league games, 3-on-3 events, and scholastic hockey programs. These programs are designed to provide additional ice time, create memorable experiences, strengthen friendships, and promote the enjoyment of hockey in a fun and competitive recreational setting. The Cape May Kraken is for players who want extra hockey or simply want to play without the pressure of travel hockey. 

At its core, the Cape May Kraken exists to grow the game of hockey in South Jersey by creating more opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels to play, compete, and most importantly, have fun.
